What is IRMAA?
An extra amount added to Medicare Part B and Part D premiums.
It applies when your income from two years ago was above $109,000 (single) or $218,000 (couple).
Who can ask for a lower IRMAA?
Anyone whose income went down after a life-changing event, like a work stoppage.
You ask Social Security to use your newer, lower income with Form SSA-44.
A one-time gain, like a stock or home sale, doesn’t count.
What do I get for $79?
Your SSA-44, filled in from your answers (you add your SSN and sign), a checklist of proofs and a cover letter.
